THE SHINING PROCESS

The theme for OzComics over the last week has been The Shining, which is really a great theme. Very visually stimulating and just a fantastic movie, full of iconic moments to draw inspiration from.

I knew straight away i wanted to draw Shelley Duvall cause she's got a great "terror" face and i always remember that scene where she's backing up the stairs with the baseball bat, and says she's "very confused right now" (which always makes me chuckle a bit, i'd be confused too). Looking through some images of the film, i had the idea of including the type into the axe and went from there.

I did the pencils, especially around her face,  really quickly and loosely which helped capture the emotion and likeness quite well i think.

Inks
Wanted to use a very simple colour scheme to guide the eye through the image. Really drive home that terror on her face.

Overall quite happy with how this one came out :)
Check out the other entries here. It's a great group this week.

BILLBOARD

Most of these guys started out as warm up or OzComics drawings, but i've since added some typography and design elements to turn them into posters!

If you're interested in purchasing a print of any of these guys drop me an e-mail.

SPACEMAN

I think drawing space suits and old school underwater diving suits are some of my favourite things to draw! This is a poster design i did for the International Day of Human Spaceflight.
And a process shot from my instagram.

This was part of a project where i had to create 3 poster designs for different UN World days, of my choice. I poster another last week, the posted for the International Day of Rural Women. Click here to check it out. I'll post up the final one next week.

TETSUO

I put on Akira for some background noise while i was getting some work done the other weekend. Such a great fucking movie! No matter how many times i've seen it, it never fails to inspire the hell out of me. So even after spending the whole day work drawing i did sketch of Tetsuo for fun (and then added some colour when i got a chance)!

PUNISHER

My entry for this week's OzComics theme, Punisher. Been working on a few posters of late so  approached this in a similar way. I was originally just drawing him as classic Punisher, but decided half way through to mess with the look a bit. I remembered in Civil War when he was running around in a balaclava, and i thought it made sense for him. Like if there was a bunch of crims robbing a bank he'd appear looking like one of them... until he ruthlessly kills them all. Plus he's bound to have a lot of enemies, so this would keep his identity a bit more on the down low.

All i see when i look at the bottom half is the new dance move sweeping the nation. The Punisher!

Act Your-r-r-Age

This is a poster design i did for a cabaret show, Act Your Age.

Started out as this Charcoal & watercolour piece on paper:Then text & details were added in Photoshop, with further tweaking off the image, to get this:

Which was sent to client for comments/critiques. Finally, with further tweaking based on clients comments and personal preferences, and final info for poster provided i got this:

I'm pretty happy with it, and the client seems to be too.
